Fella, Neverboy, who one doesn't learn the human counterpart til later, is in the emergency room, peeping the guy next to him as he puts in the reason for visit, he giving him props for the excuse of gallstones. The little girl pretending to be an RN attending him knows it's b.s., and the fella states he'd come for feeling the meaninglessness of life. She relates "Fluffy" feeling the same, and he sees a pink elephant next to her before she biffs off back to her pop. He takes a call from his hubby and leaves as an emergency patient is rolled in, his visit registration showing his name is NeverBoy.

NB's wife relates how some chick she knew hadn't recognized her, and Ben, their son was going through something he wasn't sharing. NeverBoy asks and Ben tells of not wanting to go this evening due to his buddies ignoring him, and breaking his plane, NB consoling him and saying this night'd be different. He then shares a story about a bully when he was young, he and his buddy finished making a diorama of a fake universe, the 2 making up names and races for the planets, this being when he'd come up with the name of NB, he confusing the part a bit by the end, saying NB was his only buddy (IF), but Ben feels better, and so NB advises he practice his song for the performance later. After NB's shower, the pants he had his meds in were gone, his hubby having put out the duds he was expected to wear.

It begins raining as they walk to the school's talent show, 2 dudes in jumpsuits excited about catching NB, since his meds were wearing off, NB going after Ben onstage, since it was raining technicolor, taking Ben up. NB notices Sam, his childhood buddy hadn't made it in the hospital, and the 2 jumpsuits confront NB about tracking his fake fam fantasy and would return him to his imaginary realm, but he runs off with the idea of getting his billboard fam back. Strange, intriguing start, a less violent and monster-filled version of PowerNap. Let's see where this revs up!
