Hammer of the Gods #5

By Michael Avon Oeming

The only human leaves the fight and both gods and giants are fighting, the range of battlefield discovering a momentary quietness. Thorr wonders at what had conquered Modi, he then realizing his hammer was alive once more. Thorr vows to bring victory to the gods fight, now, and he's able to bring the support necessary to reinvigorate the fight, pushing the giants down. Loki watches on as a bird, he chatting to Huginn regarding Skögul's plan to protect Mjolnir by hiding it in a human, Thorr's hammer always returning, and Modi's sacrifice proving this again. As Thorr fights, the ground vibrates, waking Modi, who isn't impressed by Thorr getting knocked about, and when Thorr sees, Modi replies to his q by stating how he still contains his own soul and when he is lost for a mo under a giant's falling body, he is lost, as Thorr claims victory, asking if anyone had discovered Modi. Skögul searches and doesn't discover him, this possibly having to do with the Valkyries arrival.

Meanwhile, Odin is told by Freya of the Valkyries conduct giving them weak warriors, and this being why the war had continued for so long. Lorgol, on the field still searching, separates from her sisters and locates Modi's body, Skögul grieving him, and afterwards his body put atop a mtn for all the gods to offer him gifts as they rebuilt Valhalla. Skögul calls Thorr out on all Modi'd helped him accomplish, which he readily admits, then gives him some of his hammer's power back, this giving his life back to the happy Skögul. Modi is back on his main track though, not giving Thorr credit, since he'd yet to help humanity.

Thorr declines and washes his hands of him, telling Modi to help his own people. When Skögul tells he'd messed up the best tactic to get Thorr to help, his pop surprises him, and Modi's glad to know he and his ma were in Valhalla, he working with Odin on magic training, and his ma helping Freya. The idea was to have a human look after Loki, since most gods thought him wonderful. Skögul was offered her godliness back along with being leader of the Valkyries, since Logol never returned, Modi stating he could never offer her anything better, but she lurving him, and the 2 smooching it out.

She goes off to do her job, his pop urging he go to her, but he instead letting her go, and wanders off, having made some gods his buddies and fought next to others, Loki possibly, back in human form, giving his 2 cents of everything ending much more differently than planned. This one left me a bit confused about whether I was actually seeing Loki by the end, but it makes the most sense. I'm also still curious about the other issues, so onward!
