Hammer of the Gods #3

By Michael Avon Oeming

Nymphs are civilly awaiting their turns to snack upon Modi, is how the opening page is laid out. Modi's 1st faced off with the ditched Valkyries member, Skögul. She tries to use her spear on him, but fails to do any damage, he noticing how they now both despise the gods, but she also not able to stand men. Skögul feels like the others of the Valkyries were looking down on her.

She next reveals Modi's power had come from her, he inviting her on his quest. Loki interrupts by addressing Skögul to slow down and she'll succeed. They distrust Loki, and he goes on a tirade of how he would've shown them the door to Valhalla, but now doesn't empathize with them, and would only possibly come to them when they called for his aid, since he didn't wish to be named a liar again, if he didn't show. Loki then biffs off by flame, and Modi and Skögul travel on, she still able to dwarf Modi's progress with her lingering powers of speed and strength. Modi begins to gather a 2nd following, and the raven soon returns as they win more fights. As Modi and Skögul travel together, their suspicions of the other eases, and when they fight against the giants and trolls of the area, the men's conviction solidifies, and repercussions for the gods grows.

Despite their abilities to take down a few witches and trolls, and a couple giants, they are losing too many, and where they were heading was more remote. So, whilst they kept up their fight, the gods remained hidden. Skögul decides to shoot the raven with an arrow, she suspecting it was Loki, the bird catches the arrow and flies off, so Skögul has Modi grab a hold of her as it drags them along. As they're flying in the warming air, Skögul surmises the raven could be 1 of Odin's, to spy with, and Modi admits he thought Skögul was clever, and not bad looking, she shooting this shit down. They then see the bridge to Valhalla, the bird dropping them to certain death, but Skögul being caught by 1 of the Valkyries, as Modi falls only thinking of her. The Valkyries chick admits to Skögul the other bitch shouldn't have taken her immortality, Skögul noticing Valhalla's condition was worrisome and it would fall with how everything was going, the giants only barely being barred, but this still nothing compared to what humans were suffering through. Regardless, when seeing the crying Thorr and his plaintive q'ing of whether Skögul had come back to return his hammer is how the issue ends.
