Ghostdancing #1

By Jamie Delano

Coyote is sleeping whilst his fam dances, he regaining his power through dreams, he also known to have to fix issues stemming from when he used his magic, this not stopping him from trying again, though. So, people danced the dance of ghosts, and when the 5th world sees the sunrise from the west, this wouldn't happen to him ever again. Crow, half woman and bird from shoulders and arms upward, wakes Coyote due to how long they'd been dancing, and someone had been drumming along to them, she suggesting Coyote have a looky, but he refusing to go back out until humans showed them respect, and the 4th world wiped out, going on to state how toxic the 5th world was, sickening him, and reminding them of white-buffalo woman still being out there and'd return when she decided it's useless, Coyote mentioning how much more quickly time sped for humans living quickly. She then bids once more for him to investigate whoever was beating the drum.

Coyote getting his mind changed and staying optimistic of perhaps the world having been healed, and stating he wasn't scared. Snake had noticed a different reaction than he'd been receiving after trying for 25 years, a lightning strike right where he was, which makes him fall from the precipice he'd been on. Meanwhile Cody is sleeping outside and sees the heavens whirling, not recognizing any constellations, and as he then feels the ground shaking, it begins to register the buffalo were on the move, which couldn't be, since the herds were extinct. Cody can't shake the feeling though, and goes for his gun, but feels a snake slithering in his hands.

Then, he wakes up next to his naked girlfriend, yapping about everything having been shaking, and he'd been moaning, he waving this off with it being L.A., earthquakes being prevaline-ish. Another lady is woken and looking out her window at the buffalo clouds and sensing the drums, scantily clad with her breasticles hanging out like the other girl, she getting the urge to be running, too, not recollecting for what reason or who was running. She doesn't know if she'd ever actually been pregnant and lost a baby, which doesn't truly matter, her body parts jiggling, all the good bits mentioned: thighs, boobles, etc., the running going through her bod, she feeling a deathly seizure, but after clenching her teeth to get through the pain, everything going quiet. Then, Brother Christopher is trudging through a desert plain, nekkid, no cock to offset the titties, though, and Christopher feeling birds wings beating wildly in his chest, he walking toward a city, the vibrations of the erf still rattling.

He's now being chased by a cloud, which overtakes him in the town square, he being changed, as if his skin was becoming scaly, then waking abruptly, feeling oddly, even though everything was normal again. Snake is then returned to as Joni notes how his place was in upheaval, he admitting to drumming, she tending to his raw-looking hand, which he can't feel the pain of, he then having her get everyone ready for a meeting, since he had something to share. At the meeting-lodge, Snake reminds everyone how they used to feel 2 decades and a half ago, feeling like they were in the right place at the right time, the world at their feet, how they'd party'd at the Grateful Dead concerts, Snake having a band back then, and how they'd played 1 song hypnotically, unable to end it if they tried, but everyone digging it, and other musicians even jamming with them. Ever since then, they attempt to recreate the same medicine they'd been taking back then, the gov't breaking up their party, all those years ago, and Snake believing he'd finally concocted the right mix, he confessing his experience atop the precipice, pounding out the song he'd learned from Brown Mary, and Snake telling of Coyote having come to dance, he then offering the medicine to those present, noting 1 only needed the single taste to maintain the new state of mind, proclaiming they were going to have a ceremony.

Coyote comes from the mtn and approaches Snake during this sacred dance at the meeting-lodge, Snake surprised to see the old man, and he stating of being woken up by his playing, tracking him there, and Snake confessing where he'd remembered the beat, Coyote declining the medicine, and introing himself as Father Craft, then asking where White-buffalo woman currently was, but Snake not knowing her by this name, and when Coyote learns Snake tells of she being killed, Coyote can't believe a "power-being" could be, then advises how Snake can bring people into a new era with his medicine. As Coyote plans to leave, Snake wants to find out more, so Coyote suggests he keep playing the ghost dance, and maybe more'd be remembered, and as he walks back into the desolate terrain, assures White-buffalo woman of her fam not having forgotten her, and would be helping her. I dig this set up, so far. The nudity is typical, but fortunately doesn't take from the draw of the mystery of Coyote and White-buffalo woman.

Hopefully the next 5 issues continue to draw me in, and on top of it, the 80's comic style doesn't hurt, either. I couldn't even tell an Englishman wrote this, at least he'd done his research, which is probably why I like it, has depth.
