Deadface-Earth-Air-Water-Fire #4

By Eddie Campbell

Black and white view of Etna and a quote of having seen it often with cracks, then Simpson's shown standing on it and thinking of a quote by Virgil. Simpson falls into Etna, and is next shown sleeping standing against the bars of his, Theseus, EK, and Bacchus' jail cell. When he falls down and wakes, Theseus rightly predicts of Simpson about to talk their ears off, and when he starts with news concerning all present, he proceeds by telling of a Greek philosopher called Emedocles, who made a theory involving the 4 elements and taking over as Gods surpassing those in Olympus. Simpson lays out the history of why Hephaestus made the 2, not 3 eyes, he getting killed possibly by  the Kabeiroi, and now they were using the gods to get the power of the eyes.

As EK is being awakened and q'd, Theseus shares all of their hopeful fates. EK then getting the group out, Bacchus and Simpson making it to the car, but not long enough for Bacchus to fix himself a drink, since the cops had blocked their path. Simpson gets shot, quotes a pretty poem, and Bacchus per Simpson's request, sets Simpson's body on fire. The cops close in, when EK comes to back up Bacchus, who requests he set the cars on fire.

Which he does with his mimed hand guns, and then drops Bacchus close to England, literally dropping him from the sky, apparently. Skylla finishes up by having both eyes finally, and puts them in to the sockets of his great-grandfather's skull, listening to his wisdom. Cute story, dug the b&w, which is rare for me, and it was kewl how Neil Gaiman responded to a letter regarding this comic, which apparently was connected to someone with Gaiman from the start of both of their careers, I skimmed the column, teehee! A fine choice to read at least once, though!
